چکیده

The computer program SnB implements a direct-methods algorithm, known as Shake-and-Bake, which optimizes trial structures consisting of randomly positioned atoms. Although large Shake-and-Bake applications require signi®cant amounts of computing time, the algorithm can be easily implemented in parallel in order to decrease the real time required to achieve a solution. By using a master±worker model, SnB version 2.2 is amenable to all of the prevalent modern parallel-computing platforms, including (i) shared-memory multiprocessor machines, such as the SGI Origin2000, (ii) distributed-memory multiprocessor machines, such as the IBM SP, and (iii) collections of workstations, including Beowulf clusters. A linear speedup in the processing of a ®xed number of trial structures can be obtained on each of these platforms.

A Fast Parallel Routing Algorithm for Strictly Nonblocking Switching Networks

A class of strictly nonblocking (SNB) networks can be constructed from vertical stacking of multiple planes of Banyan networks. Fast routing algorithms are needed for finding available connection paths in networks. In this paper, by modeling the switching routing problem in SNB networks as strong edge coloring problem, we propose a simple and fast parallel routing algorithm for routing connecti...

SnB: Applying Shake-and-Bake to Proteins

The Shake-and-Bake algorithm is a powerful formulation of direct methods which alternates reciprocal-space phase refinement with filtering in real space to impose constraints. As implemented in SnB version 1.5, the current distributed version of the computer program, Shake-and-Bake combines peak picking in real space with optimization via either parameter-shift reduction of the minimal-function...

Verifying the fully “Laplacianised” posterior Naïve Bayesian approach and more

BACKGROUND In a recent paper, Mussa, Mitchell and Glen (MMG) have mathematically demonstrated that the "Laplacian Corrected Modified Naïve Bayes" (LCMNB) algorithm can be viewed as a variant of the so-called Standard Naïve Bayes (SNB) scheme, whereby the role played by absence of compound features in classifying/assigning the compound to its appropriate class is ignored. MMG have also proffered...

With a little help from my friends: androgens tap BDNF signaling pathways to alter neural circuits.

Gonadal androgens are critical for the development and maintenance of sexually dimorphic regions of the male nervous system, which is critical for male-specific behavior and physiological functioning. In rodents, the motoneurons of the spinal nucleus of the bulbocavernosus (SNB) provide a useful example of a neural system dependent on androgen. Unless rescued by perinatal androgens, the SNB mot...
